Solstice Cancer Full Moon Horoscopes

Cancer Full Moon Saturday, Dec. 22nd, at 9:28 AM PST and 12:28 PM EST

The Cancer Full Moon culminates about fourteen hours after the Winter Solstice – very significant timing that intensifies and influences the Moon’s expression and impact.

The Winter Solstice is the darkest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Because of the earth’s extreme tilt, the Sun reaches it’s Northern “outer limits” and can go no further in it’s current direction. There is a pause before a direction change and things begin to move back toward something more balanced. Cosmically this is symbolized by more equal lengths of daytime and nightime and equal periods of light and dark.

On a personal level since June 21st we’ve been moving in a direction that will now change. The full Moon in Cancer, occurring on the heels of the Solstice, feels emotionally extreme, challenging, and maybe like this could be the end of something involving family, roots, and a significant occurrence from the past. The final “nail in the coffin” may actually have occurred last March. But it’s taken awhile for the impact to sink in.

By the Spring Equinox of March 20th, 2019 we will have achieved something approximating balance – in contrast to what we’re experiencing now.

Currently we’re trying to change or to clarify our beliefs, adjust our perspective, tune into our most sensitve self, identify what we need, and set some boundaries so we can protect ourself.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun – the quality of light reflected off this Cancer full Moon – is the following:

“Perched on a tree by the ocean an owl watches a ship’s approach. In the murky twilight a signpost on a tree can hardly be read.”

This implies focusing and refocusing to correct a first impression. We may be trying to fit the fragmented images of past experience into some kind of a coherent picture that would clarify our next move. The truth of what we’re experiencing needs to be clarified. Dreams and occult symbolism may be helpful as we’re learning to “see.” A recalibration of what we can or “must” endure is in play.

Pluto in Capricorn squares Pallas in Libra. The “hammer” comes down on old patterns within the realm of relationships. In some cases it appears old habits and patterns have failed to effectively protect the parts of you that need protection. You may have counted on others to “play nice” and to shoulder a responsibility that rightfully belongs to you.

The Sun/Pluto midpoint falls on Saturn. This indicates the ruthless overcoming of obstacles and difficulties by doing something that’s really hard for you to do. A separation from attachments and a severing of what may be forming an outdated foundation for your sense of identity, may be required.

In this full Moon chart, as in any full Moon chart, the Sun opposes the Moon. In this case the Capricorn Sun is opposing the Cancer Moon making her uncomfortable and reminding her of her responsibility to care for herself. Saturn rules the sign of Capricorn. The Moon is in her home sign and therefore expressing very powerfully.

Most significantly Saturn in Capricorn is unaspected in this full Moon chart. He’s disconnected from the “whole of the chart” and therefore able to express in his purest form. He’s unbiased and unfazed by planets that would otherwise tend to restrain or soften him. He’s free to express his most natural state – strictly authoritative, calcualting, rational, realistic, dispassionate, and fully accepting of the responsibility to protect himself. He’s ready to lay down the law, to severe ties, and to enforce boundaries. He doesn’t expect things to be easy and ruthlessly does what it takes to maintain a sense of self-respect.

All planetary energies are alive within you. Saturn and the vulnerable Moon are dominant influences striving to reach an understanding. Saturn is unleashed and currently a wild card. He’d like to be constructing walls and boundaries – the equivalent of a “fortified crab shell” – to be fully operational and unapologetically protective of you.

The tarot card associated with this full Moon is the Five of Pentacles (coins). It’s a card of hardship, financial instability, poverty, and the desperate urge to survive. The full Moon in Cancer is emotional, supportive, and sensitvely attuned to what another is feeling. She’s instinctively programmed to nurture. All of that needs to considered and maybe “reined in” for the purpose of protecting something within herself that must survive. I’ll try to clarify exactly what that is for each sign.

Some of what underpins a debilitating, hurtful situation or experience is financial. “Poverty of spirit” or the willingness to “sell you out” may be part of some painful realization that’s been suppressed since last Spring (March). Mothers may have been hit especially hard by opportunism and deceit. Money, sex, power, and addiction – all “under the table” operations may have left you extremely vulnerable.

Parental relationships are highlighted under this full Moon. But relationship betrayals of any kind are ripe for the kind of healing that requires full acceptance of your responsibility to care for yourself. The Sun’s square to Chiron signifies the need for an especiallyh courageous and challenging healing action.

Jupiter’s conjunction to Mercury and square to Neptune could suggest some kind of legal action.

Letting others know, in no uncertain terms, that you will protect yourself is a positive message. If children are watching and learning it’s doubly so.

Underestimations of your self worth may have moved you into family contracts – official or otherwise – that have become untenable. It may be necessary to change the rules in the middle of the game.

A return to balance has some magical consequences. But there is a price to be paid with no guarantees. In “carrot/stick” operations, Saturn is the stick. Failing to take seriously your responsibility to protect yourself could have serious consequences especially when Saturn is in a currentlhy unrestrained position.

For the sake of the survival of something essential, beliefs may need to change – specially those ivolving family and children.

It takes some hard work to align yourself with what you need (Cancer). Layers of old programming may need to be removed. But what needs to be done may be especially clear now.

The Jupiter/Pluto midpoint falls on the Sun. This implies the successful use of extraordinary physical or mental powers to create magical effects. It’s time to take the reins and move yourself in the direction you need to go.

ARIES (March 21-April 21)
The Sun’s entrance into your 10th house of accomplishment and your “central aim in life” is highlighting the need for foundational strength and stability. This involves your home, feeling comfotable where live, and the need to address whatever family or financial issues from the past have left you vulnerable and potentially defenseless. Now is a time when you could accomplish something of significance. The source of your success is your ability to stayed tuned-in to your feelings while at the same time reining them in, structuring them, or chanelling them in ways that serve your profession, the public, and your desire for respect, recognition, and admiration. Unraveling family issues and setting limits – maybe severing ties – is key. Feeling safe and comfortable where you live and seeing clearly the nature of something hurtful that occurred last March is important. You have until February 18th to heal fully integrate a loss and to make sure you’re standing on the kind of solid ground that will support your ambitious aims.

TAURUS (April 21-May 21)
Taking responsibility for your future (financial future) and how things will eventually unfold most likely requires doing something that’s very hard for you to do. But the quality of your daily life and routine needs to be protected against forces that work to undermine your peace of mind and ultimately your freedom. Whatever keeps you in a state of high anxiety or prevents you from nurturing yourself and others with your ideas and healthy doses of truth needs to be brought under control. You may be highly sensitive to whatever is going on in your immediate environment and seek to calm things down through short cuts (addictive substances). Your sanity may depend on finding a place of comfort within your own head. That requires taking control of your financial future and ensuring your freedom to create the kind of immediate environment you dream of creating. You may pay a price for that. But the alternatives aren’t looking good. In some sense it is time to grow up with regard to protecting yourself and maybe a child.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21)
The Moon in your second house encourages you to be protective of your financial security, talents, and resources within the structure of a partnership. On a personal level the Moon ecourages you to protect your sense of self-worth from partners who may benefit from an “underestimation” and from those who seek more control than their entitled to within the boundaries of a fair and equal partnership. But there may be a sense of optimism surrounding personal relationships. You may see a path forward that feels expansive and freeing. Pluto in your 8th house of power is encouraging you to destroy old relationship patterns in the broadest sense. Your relationship to a child, to your own creative talents, and to a life filled with joy – all of these may be ripe for transformation and an upgrade. Taking responsibility to protect and defend your sense of self-worth and self-respect seems to be the key that unlocks any door you want unlocked.

CANCER (June 21-July)
The Sun enters your 7th house this week highlighting what is known as your blind spot. In the past you may not have recognized your ability to take on a lot of responsibility, to follow through successfully, to create wealth, to provide stability, to work efficiently, and to prosper as a result. In fact, within the realm of partnership, you may have delegated these jobs to another. Now it’s time to take those responsibilities back and with them more power and control over your life. It may be time to fully support your desire to be comfortable, secure, and wealthy without sacrificing any control or creative freedom. Most in need of protection is your right to play the role of the sensitive, empathetic, healing nourisher. You are destined to contribute something groundbreakingly beautiful to the world. It’s time to prepare for that future. By mid January (2019) you’re on your way.

LEO (July 21-Aug 21)
Your work life, heavy financial responsibilities, self-sacrificing nature, or need to evade what’s most difficult for you to integrate, may be threatening your emotional health and well-being. An inner source of nourishment, healing, and creative inspiration needs more quiet time and more alone time to fully activate. Something valuable and vulnerable is struggling to survive under the weight of personal neglect. You may miss important intuitive cues that could make your life easier and alot more fun. It’s time to take responsibility for prioritizing you. This will most likely require a more realistic approach to work and a more discrimminating approach to the responsibilities you agree to take on. Jupiter and Mercury in your fifth house generate creative ideas that deserve to be developed. That’s most likely to happen when you’re alone, laying on the couch, staring at the ceiling, and tuning in to rich sources of inspiration.

VIRGO (August 21-Sep 21)
Mercury and Jupiter in Sagittarius in your 4th house throw some real optimism into anything associated with a home business buying a home, moving, or something promising that could launch your career in a direction you’d like to go. An opportunity, something freeing, and interesting expands optimism and the actual possibilities available to you. Most in need of protection is your ability to work collaboratively, to trust your friends, to count on your allies, and to be continually creatively stimulated by the ideas of those you find interesting and stabilizing. Virgos love to perfect their craft. It seems you may have the opportunity to do that. But something must be reined in and structured in a more balanced way. Finanacial realities must be considered. In fact you may be especially valuable as someone talented in the art of creating sound financial strategies for success. There is an element of real promise as long as fear is kept at bay. Whatever nourishes and protects friendliness, friendships, and the assistance of potential allies is especially important.

LIBRA (September 21 – October 21)
Most in need of protection is your ability to provide the public with the kind of sensitive, instincttive nourishing that’s very rare outside of the “home and family realm.” Your role as a protector within the public realm needs to be protected. In order to accomplish that you may need more control over your own home and emotional environment. Hard work and focus may be required to free yourself from a past that nourished fear, comfort within limited role, restriction, heavy responsibility, high expectations, or the need to compensate for some parental disappointment. Pluto in your fourth house (your home and family) is encouraging you to destroy old patterns that define your role within the realm of relationships. Healthy boundaries between your own emotions and those of family members are critical to maintain. It’s time to review and revise old contracts and agreements and maybe to reorder your priorities.

SCORPIO (October 21 – November 21)
What’s most in need of protection is your freedom and your future. It is critical that you tell yourself the truth about how restricted you can afford to be and what sacrifices you’re willing to make for the sake of a secure, predictable routine as opposed to an adventurous future. The Sun’s move into your 3rd house increases confidence in your ability to communicate the truth about something that could be profoundly healing for the world. Communication talent is highlighted and energized with the Sun’s move into the sign of Capricorn. An idea is ripe for expression. A conversation about financial stability could be unexpectedly productive. Pallas in your 12th house provides access to other realms and sources of inspiration that stimulate a promising story line or imaginative creation. The freedom loving, dangerous woman archetype is alive and well in your powerful 4th house. She’s making her way toward something that will shock and awaken. It’s all contingent upon how committed you are to protecting your freedom and future.

SAGITTARIUS (November 21- December 21)
Something hurtful that occurred last March involving home, family, and the past may not be fully healed until February 18th of next year. But you may be taking some important steps now to “right the ship.” An area of vulnerability for you is the area of shared resources – how much control you have over financial decision-making, over what you’ve contribute, what a partner contributes, and the current status of your sense of self-worth. You may need to be more assertive and willing to accept more responsibility for the accumulation of shared wealth and the quality and structure of your future. You may need to say no to a partner who insists on total control. But past betrayals and some reluctance to do what needs to be done to protect yourself may be holding you back. You need to be clear about the financial structure of any partnership. The structure needs to include safeguards for you – and you’re the one who needs to make sure those exist.

CAPRICORN (December 21-January 21)
Happy Birthday Capricorn! Welcome to the beginning of a challenge to integrate partnerships and balance into your overall approach to life. The area of vulnerability for you that requires watchful protection centers around your own resources and those of a partner. Trust may be an issue. Can you trust your partner to be a financially responsible contibutor? From a financial standpoint do you know what your worth, what your partner is worth, how much you owe, what your tax liabilities are, and how financially, emotionally, and intimately connected you can afford to be? You may feel more comfotable with separate bank accounts and total control. On deeper levels financial health is a reflection of how comfortable you feel with intimacy and trusting the partner you have. It’s always tricky for Capricorn. Take responsibility for constructing something that will protect you and your partnership. The time may be right to change the nature of an “understanding” you may have agreed to in the past.

AQUARIUS (January 21-February 21)
Aquarius needs to protect their health, their work environment, and ability to master their fears by protecting themselves from secret enemies. “Enemies” may be disguised as friends, family members who love you, or those who have your best interests at heart. An agreement to believe what your lying eyes are telling you needs to be broken. Paying more attention to the “expertise” of your inuitive insights is necessary. Enemies in any form or under any disguise need to be recognized and shown the door. There’s a lot of confusion that can be associated with asserting your authority and putting an end to what hurts you. Guilt is the culprit most of the time. But also a lack of clarity. Pluto is working from behind the scenes to destroy an old “understanding” between family members and the past. It may be threatening your health, sense of self-respect, and ability to gain mastery over yourself and your life. Friends can be the family you choose.
pisces otherworldly
PISCES (February 21-March 21)
What’s most in need of protection for Pisces is your ability to be receptive to the kind of inspiration and love that enlivens the soul, brings abundant joy into your own life, and the life of those around you. It’s important to protect your artistic ability and your souces of inspiration, as well as your ability to connect with magical sources of healing. Taking control of your social life by carefully cultivating friends who know how to give as well as receive is imortant. Sources of negativity – those who throw you off your game and encourage you to disconnect from intuitve knowledge need to be avoided. It is your responsibility to manage the quality of the influences you allow into your life. It is your responsibility to find the strength to prioritize your feelings and security over another’s – something that will most likely be hard for you to do. If you’ve managed this area of life well some of your creative work may now be celebrated. You may feel more in tune with yourself, more encouraged, and excited about developing future possibilities. What supports your success (or undermines it) are the friends and allies you choose to associate with.
