Taurus New Moon

ON MONDAY, MAY 18, 2015 AT 12:13 AM EDT & SUNDAY, MAY 17TH AT 9:13 PM PDT, A NEW MOON RISES AT 26 DEGREES TAURUS 56′

This Taurus New Moon is ruled by the older and wiser Venus – the crone, not the maiden. There is an air of unshakeable tranquility about her. At this New Moon, there exists the potential for us to achieve the same. As with all signs, it’s difficult to understand the true meaning and purpose of Taurus without considering her opposing sign, Scorpio.

Inner peace allows for great freedom of movement. We can afford to take some risk and to keep life interesting if our “inner core” is stable and we’re not easily thrown off balance. But Taurus, before she embraces Scorpios power, is especially easily thrown off. She is the sign most likely to create a life of sameness, never facing what needs to be faced, to avoid inner upheaval and chaos.

This New Moon appears to be an “in your face” challenge to those who would be inclined to keep their life on a superficial “even keel” at the expense of keeping it vital. Pluto opposes Venus in this New Moon chart suggesting the need to ask ourselves harder questions. Forgoing the need for comfort and easy answers in exchange for something more solid and valuable is the issue.

Algol, the fixed star, known as both demon and Greek hero, partners with this New Moon at 26 degrees of Taurus. He adds elements of horror and heroism to our emerging new emotional beginnings. Scorpio always asks us to walk through the fire, not around it.

Mythologically, Algol was the guy who cut off the head of the feminine sea Goddess Medusa, otherwise known as the demonic sea monster with snakes for hair. Within the constellation of Perseus, Algol forever shines as the eye within Medusa’s severed head.

Looking into Medusa’s eye is unsettling to say the least. Through it shines the coldness, rage, and unforgiving nature of a once glorified Goddess cut off from her instincts and sources of power. Scorned and humiliated through most of human history, the oppression of the feminine is a deep wound that lives on within the darkness of our collective psyche. Taurus, in her undeveloped state, is prone to want to keep it that way. But that is very misguided for a sign ruled by Venus – the epitome of feminine power and love.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon, “A Woman Pursued by Mature Romance” alludes to opportunities that come well after their “appointed time.” It’s easy to dismiss those as aberrations, illusions, or figments of our imagination. But this seems to be the right time for some major progress in the recovery of feminine instincts and a return to a balance of power. What is is what is meant to be. There is no mistake.

Cosmic energies appear to be aligning to form a perfect storm globally and on a a more personal level. Neptune is dissolving the limitations places on subversive truth tellers. She is giving them an “open mike” so to speak. Underground communication channels, undercover whistle blowers, and scrambled signals breeching protective firewalls are being given free reign. Wounds currently being brought into the light has been festering for ages. Healing is intensified and accelerated.

On a personal level, we must allow for a similar purging and healing to occur. Looking into the eye of Medusa, connecting with her pain, shining a light, and letting it go, is the challenge. Pallas, the warrior goddess, especially talented in the art of recognizing patterns, is placed at the highest position in this New Moon chart. Her Sabian symbol is “An Old Bridge Over a Beautiful Stream” Recovering an ancient linkage for the purpose of healing ourselves and the world is the current opportunity. A release from unbearable pressure is receiving a cosmic assist.

Now seems like the right time to ask ourselves “if I was not stuck in this current dilemma, repetitive train of thought, or confining situation, what would I have to face instead.” Most likely the answer to that question gets close to the heart of your fears and a clarified path toward healing. Now is the right time for some self-induced emotional upheaval.
